Course Summary

This course has been designed and developed by universities, employers and industry specialists in order to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills that they will need to pursue a job in the creative media industries. Students will develop professional and social skills through interaction with performers, clients and peers; as well as theoretical and technical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. This will allow creativity and flair to be harnessed in the design and production of media products used within the industry.

Course Details

Students will develop conceptual ideas, and visualise these all the way through the production cycle; from planning and pre-production right through to editing, post production and presentation of products. Students will also learn how to analyse target audience requirements, research market demand and bring a media concept alive, working in line with legal and regulatory requirements, in a safe and effective way, protecting themselves and those they're working with from injury or harm. During the 2-year course, learners will cover a variety of units, allowing them to develop sound knowledge of and technical skills in a wide-range of creative areas. Single block units: • Media Products and Audiences • Creating a Media Product • Planning and Delivering a Pitch for a Media product • Pre-production and Planning • Advertising Media • Creating a Personal Media Portfolio

Entry requirements

A grade 4 in GCSE English Language is essential. Minimum GCSE avg. of 4.5. Applicants must be prepared to be in front of and behind the camera and must also sustain regular, high attendance due to the nature of group-based production work.

Your next steps...

Many former students have gone on to study media production at film school or university or are now working in media production companies. The Cambridge Technical accrues equivalent UCAS points to A Level qualifications so university is always an option, however, employers and other HE providers, including those offering apprenticeships, also welcome students with vocational qualifications such as this one. Students may also consider applying for the L4 UAL Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise which is delivered at EN.
