Application Instructions

Please refer to EN's Entry Requirements Guide for specific advice on our Admissions Policy. This guide is supplied at interview to prospective students and is also available to Schools & Careers Advisers.

Course Summary

This course will be particularly suitable if you wish to prepare for a career in IT and related industries. You will be given the opportunity to develop a range of skills but it will particularly appeal to you if you want to carry out practical work and be creative.

Course Details

Your examined unit completed in the first term will look at ‘The Online World’ and the services and applications that exist online. It includes looking at communication, document sharing and advertising.

There is also a focus on learning how to stay safe online. You will look at how users create an ‘internet footprint’ and how you and others make use of the internet and all its functions.

In the next two terms, you will then create two websites using pre-existing software, one a website of your choice and one to produce your own ‘Personal Portfolio’.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment:

75% coursework and 25% examination (which has to be passed to be able to pass the course).

Learners must therefore work very hard to keep on top of the work set and be prepared to work independently.

Entry requirements

A grade 3 in GCSE English Language and Maths is essential. Applicants should have achieved at least a grade 3 in four or more subjects at Level 2.

Your next steps...

This course gives you the opportunity to develop skills that are relevant to the IT industry. It can also provide a route to the Level 3 courses and later higher education and a career in IT.
A two-year-old website may be too old!
All web designers have to work hard to keep up with constant changing technologies. The devices being used to access websites are constantly changing and therefore the way that those websites are developed have keep pace with this. Website that are old risk not displaying properly in new web browsers, or most importantly not showing up in a search engine’s end result.
