Course Summary

This course will be particularly suitable if you wish to prepare for a career in the IT and computing industries and related areas. It will appeal to you if you want a programme of study that is intellectually challenging and want also to carry out practical work and be creative. Students will be given the opportunity to develop a range of skills, techniques and personal qualities and attitudes that are essential for a career in the computing sector. In year one you will learn how to create an information system by developing a working knowledge of relational databases, along with exploring social media and how to ensure social media is effective in today’s modern business environment. In year two you will learn how modern computer systems function and how these interact with each other. You will also develop a working knowledge of how to develop websites to industry standard.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment:

The course is roughly 50% non-examined assessment and 50% externally assessed although this weighting is different for each qualification;

50% external assessment on Certificate

58% external assessment on Extended certificate

Entry requirements

Qualification Type: BTEC Level 3

A grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths is essential. Any IT qualification at L2 should be a 4 / Pass grade or above.

Your next steps...

The Level 3 Extended Certificate will provide you with the equivalent of a full A Level and can be used to progress to higher education or employment. You will develop and hone transferable skills that can be applied across a variety of sectors.
