Course Summary
Esports is defined as organised competitive gaming, which is human versus human, either as individuals or in teams. The esports industry is a fast-growing global industry. In February 2019, Newzoo published its 2019 Global Esports Market Report. This stated that, in 2018, the global esports market was valued at 655 million U.S. dollars. This rose to nearly 865 million U.S. dollars in 2019 and is projected to reach 1.79 billion U.S dollars in 2022. (Information taken from Pearson website)
We know that Esports is only going to continue to grow and therefore, we need to prepare learners with the skills and knowledge they need to not only pursue their dream career, but also the confidence that they are progressing within a sector where there are jobs and opportunities.
Course Details
During the two year course you will study a broad range of topics, all essential to building a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the sector. Learners will develop technical skills that enhance their ability to create and take part in Esports events, whilst also gaining fundamental knowledge about the industry and how to succeed within it. Business and Science feature heavily and are essential components for those seeking a career in this field. You will develop a keen understanding of how to stay safe and healthy whilst taking part in Esports events and also how to pursue a viable and secure financial future in the industry.
Year 1 units include:
- Introduction to Esports
- Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
- Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry
- Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players
Year 2 units include:
- Esports Events
- Live-streamed Broadcasting
- Producing an Esports Brand
- Games Design
- Shoutcasting

Entry requirements
Learners must have achieved at least a grade 4 in English Language (essential) and a grade 4 in Maths at Level 2. Learners must be aware that there is a large theoretical and written component to the course that compliments practical assignments.

The qualification is aimed at learners who want to progress to employment in the esports industry, possibly via an apprenticeship, or who may aspire to enter higher education. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for learners who want to work in the industry. This means that it will be recognised by employers and will support entry into the industry in a range of roles. When combined with other level 3 qualifications, this qualification also offers learners the opportunity to progress to broad range of higher education programmes, including bachelor's degrees
