Course Details

This one-year vocational BTEC Level 2 Performing and Production Arts Industry Skills course will provide you with a comprehensive foundation for a career in makeup artistry.

You will cover skills for performing arts, film, TV, and fashion.

The course covers a range of techniques, including:

  • Editorial and contemporary hair and make-up techniques
  • Wig styling and fitting
  • Make-up for performers
  • Special effects make-up
  • Making and using prosthetics
  • Health and safety in the make-up room
  • Studio etiquette and professionalism
  • Product, tool, and equipment knowledge
  • Period hair and make-up
  • timed and fast-track hair and make-up
  • Designing and creating costumes and props

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are a variety of learning modules which will be internally assessed through practical skills and written projects. These will be graded as Pass, Merit and Distinction.

These units will help to develop your production skills and techniques, how to respond to production requirements and purpose and how to contribute to a production.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve four GCSEs including English language and maths. The remaining two ideally would include biology, science, art, photography, design or history.

Course Progression

This qualification carries UCAS points and meets the admission requirements for many relevant higher level courses and degrees in Technical Theatre, Design, Stage Management, Lighting, and Make-up for Media and Performance.

You could progress to study a BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Production Arts Practice Level 3 and beyond consider exploring university courses.
