Course Details
The Level 1 Digital and IT course is ideal for students interested in Digital IT including programming, cybersecurity and game design, offering practical, assignment-based learning with no exams.
Students on this course will work towards the Level 1 Gateway Extended Certificate in Vocational Studies for one academic year.
You will gain hands-on experience with industry software like Blender for 3D modelling and Python for programming while developing key employability skills. You will explore game creation, interactive media, IT systems, coding, alongside workplace skills. Projects include designing games, creating animations, troubleshooting IT issues, and looking at sustainable technology.
Students without a grade 4 in GCSE English or maths will continue studying these subjects. This course provides a strong foundation for further study or careers in digital industries.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The Level 1 Digital and IT course is entirely assignment-based, meaning there are no exams. Instead, you will complete a range of practical projects, coursework, and written assignments to demonstrate their understanding. Each unit is assessed internally, with feedback given to help you improve. This ensures you can develop your skills in a supportive, hands-on environment, preparing you for further study or entry-level roles in the digital industry.
Entry requirements
You will need to achieve three GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English language and Maths. Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths will also be accepted.

Course Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to T- Level Foundational Year in Digital or Level 2 Games Design. Yu can also apply for alternative Level 2 courses within the department that may better suit your career aims such as Level 2 Creative Media Production. Alternatively, you can go out and seek a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
