Application Instructions
Students will need to demonstrate an ability to study at least 3 A-level subjects by achieving an average of 38 points over 8 GCSEs with a Grade 4 at least in English and Mathematics. Students should gain a Grade 6 or above in subjects they wish to study at A Level. Points are worked out on the bases that a Grade 9 = 9 points, Grade 8 = 8 points etc.

Course Details
Lively, relevant, controversial… there are many ways to describe A-level Politics. There’s no denying that it’s one of the most interesting and engaging qualifications you can choose. Covering news and current affairs from the UK and US, it helps you understand how these countries are run and develops research, written communication and debate skills. It also helps grow your confidence.
CONTENT
You will study the Government and Politics of the UK and the USA, Comparative Politics and Political Ideas. This will include constitutional issues, electoral systems, the roles of presidents and prime ministers, political parties and pressure groups. We will look at the core political ideologies of Liberalism, Socialism and Conservatism. The Government and Politics exam consists of three two-hour papers each worth one third of the final A level. The questions are a mixture of medium length ‘explain’ and essay-style questions. You can see full details of the specifications at aqa.org.uk/politics
Entry requirements
Students will need a keen interest in current affairs and GCSE English at grade 6 or above.
