This course allows you to take your first steps into the world of music production in a creative and supportive learning environment. Our high-tech facilities and experienced staff provide a learning experience which prepares you for the next stages of your education and musical journey, whatever your starting point.

Course Details

Learn a wide variety of musical and technical skills and knowledge throughout the year, to provide a broad grounding in the essential areas required in music technology and production.
Develop skills in composing, producing, remixing and arranging; learn how to record and edit audio, so you can record your own material or add to your music productions; and how to create collaboratively, so you can begin to work with others to make great music..
Learn about the music industry: how to earn money; how to analyse the music of others; how your favourite artists influence your own sound and style; and how music styles and scenes develop over time and are affected by things such as technology and history.
Work with your peers to organise and carry out a musical event of your design.
Work with teachers to learn more about your personal health and well-being.
Develop professional skills to prepare you for your next steps in life and education.

The course provides a strong introduction to a range of skills and knowledge within the world of music production, covering composing music both collaboratively and solo, sequencing music using software, recording audio and music and editing audio. You will also learn how you could use the music you make to earn money.

You and your peers will all have different skills, ambitions and levels of experience within music, so in all your lessons, you and your peers can learn from and inspire each other in new and interesting ways as well as collaborate to produce or compose outside the classroom. The modern musician needs a range of experience, skills and knowledge, so studying these on the course will give you a strong start in your musical journey.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is internally assessed, meaning your teachers deliver and grade all of your coursework. Each year is made up of carefully scheduled projects, which can involve both individual and group work. The year is currently made up of 7 projects/assignments, which are a balance of practical work, like compositions, productions, and audio recordings, alongside written/visual reports and presentations.

Entry requirements

Three or more GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English (Language or Literature).

Your next steps...

Progression from the Level 2 course is to further study at Level 3. This may be to the Level 3 Music Performance course, or other courses such as Music Performance or Event Production.
