This course allows you to take your first steps into the world of performance and music composition in a creative and supportive learning environment. Course Details

Learn a variety of musical skills and knowledge throughout the year to give you a solid start in the essential areas of music performance and composition.
Develop skills in composing, rehearsing in groups or bands, performing live on stage, and creating music collaboratively, so you can begin to work with others to make great music.
Work with your peers to organise and carry out a musical event of your design.
Learn about the music industry: how to earn money; how to analyse the music of others; how your favourite artists influence your own sound and style; and how music styles and scenes develop over time and are affected by things such as technology and history.
Work with teachers to learn more about your personal health and well-being
Develop professional skills to prepare you for your next steps in life and education.

By the time you finish your course, you should have a clear idea of your next steps in music and education, and have the skills and knowledge you need to succeed at the next level.

You will be able to use the performance spaces and live music opportunities organised within your campus, both as part of your course and as extra performance opportunities or events.

You and your peers will all have different skills, ambitions and levels of experience within music, so in all your lessons, you can learn from and inspire each other in new and interesting ways, as well as collaborate to produce or compose in and out of the classroom. The modern musician needs a range of experience, skills and knowledge, so studying these on the course will give you a strong start in your musical journey.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is internally assessed, meaning your teachers deliver and assess all of your coursework. The year is currently made up of 6 projects/assignments. These projects are a balance of practical work, like videoed performances, compositions, and audio recordings, as well as written reports and presentations.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at 3-9 (D-A*) including English.

Your next steps...

Progression from the Level 2 course is to further study at Level 3. This may be to the Music Performance Level 3 course, or our other Level 3 courses such as Music Production or Event Production.
