Skills and Experience Gained:

Learn contemporary music production techniques and approaches, using professional tools and software, and develop composition and arrangement skills

Explore different styles and production techniques to create music using sequencer software.

Develop an understanding of key music theory and critical listening skills, alongside a range of audio effects, sound manipulation tools, and sound design fundamentals such as the basics of synthesis and sampling.

Learn how to use music production tools to mix and master music by other musicians and artists, as well as your own.

Explore potential career routes and income streams

Develop an understanding of how to sustain a successful career, including business and marketing strategies.

Build research techniques and critical thinking, affording you the option of studying at university in the future.

Create a body of compositional and audio work to demonstrate your ability as a producer, composer and sound engineer.

        Learning Experience:
On our L3 Music Production course, you’ll step into the world of professional music creation with access to impressive recording studios and music tech suites equipped with Logic Pro and MIDI keyboards.

You will experience hands-on practical sessions in specialist creative spaces and engaging classroom-based contextual studies, giving you a well-rounded skill set. You’ll also collaborate with like-minded creatives across pathways, sparking fresh ideas and real-world connections as you bring your musical visions to life.

On successful completion, you will get a recognised qualification which you can add to your creative CV:

        • Two-year BTEC or RSL Level 3 Extended Diploma. This can generate up to 168 UCAS points on the 2017 tariff.
        • Please note these UCAS points are for a Distinction* and lower grades generate considerably fewer points.
        • The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.
        • All assessments are via real-world project-based coursework. There are no end-of-year exams.

        Entry requirements

If you are interested in applying, please fill out our short application form. After you have created an account, you will be able to provide links to online work, upload relevant documents and book an interview slot.

        • We value your creative passion and skills above all else. However, you will also need to demonstrate that you are able to work at Level 3 (A Level standard). This means achieving at least four GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C-A*), including English, or other equivalent qualifications. Other grades will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Places are conditional based on this achievement and we will discuss options with you if you do not attain these.
        • For school leavers, we will require evidence of your predicted and actual grades, ideally backed up by a school reference.
        • As a guide, this course is for more experienced producers/composers with experience of music production. You should already be familiar with at least one or two software platforms and may have used more advanced programmes such as Logic Pro. You may also be a DJ or live electronic performer.
        • Please note you will not be able to enrol if you will be under the age of 16 on 31st August. Applications from people under this age are still welcome, but will be deferred to the following year.

        Your next steps...

Choosing this Level 3 Music Production course will give you the skills to go on to university or into creative work.

The creative sector is one of the fastest growing areas of the UK economy and a great and exciting place in which to work.

This Music Production course can lead on to:

        • A creative degree at university where you can gain further skills in preparation for work. This may be a music technology degree or another subject which takes your fancy. You will need to complete both years of the course in order to generate the UCAS points for university entry. Access Creative College has a new foundation degree in Audio and Music Technology which offers perfect progression.
        • Our one-year Artist Development course where you can take your music to the next level in preparation for professional work.
        • Employment, or self-employment, in the creative industries. This may be as a producer or composer, or it may be into another area of the music or creative industries.
        • A creative apprenticeship as a stepping stone to work.
