Application Instructions
Students will need to demonstrate an ability to study at least 3 A-level subjects by achieving an average of 38 points over 8 GCSEs with a Grade 4 at least in English and Mathematics. Students should gain a Grade 6 or above in subjects they wish to study at A Level. Points are worked out on the bases that a Grade 9 = 9 points, Grade 8 = 8 points etc.

Course Details
The reformed A-Level in Music Technology is a cutting edge qualification for the 21st Century musician. The Performing Arts Department has outstanding facilities meaning learners are able to work with the very latest industry standard software and hardware including an iMac suite of 15 workstations running Logic Pro X software together with our professionally equipped Recording Studio.
CONTENT
Component 1: Recording (20% of A-level)
Learners are required to engineer, mix and produce a professional quality multi-track recording. The track will be chosen by the learner from a list of 10 songs provided by Edexcel.
Component 2: Technology-based composition (20% of A-level)
Learners are required to create, edit, manipulate and structure sounds to produce a technology-based composition to brief provided by Edexcel. The composition must be 3 minutes in duration.
Component 3: Listening and analysing (25% of A-level)
Learners will sit a 90 minute listening exam, where they will need to apply their knowledge and understanding of recording and production techniques for both corrective and creative purposes as well as the principles of sound and audio technology and the wider development of recording and production technology.
Component 4: Producing and analysing (35% of A-level)
Learners will sit a 2 hour, 15minute practical exam, where they will need to use Logic Pro X software to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of editing, mixing and production techniques. Edexcel will supply students with a set of unfamiliar audio/MIDI materials from which to work from to complete the tasks contained within the paper.

GCSE Music, Grade 5 or above. (BTEC Music accepted in place of GCSE Music)
