Course Details

Whether it’s your passion to work with children, the elderly or vulnerable, our course will help you develop skills to work in many different aspects of the care industry.

We offer a Care Cadet pathway which includes work placements that fit around your career ideas, helping you to develop your knowledge and skills to move into care practice, an apprenticeship or progress with your studies. In college, you will study modules including understanding the role of a healthcare worker, health, safety and security, problem solving and communication skills for the health sector.

As you progress, you will also study modules including anatomy and physiology, infection control, psychology, sociology and nutrition. Our programme is designed to give you lots of options for progression; you could choose university for nursing, health studies, social work or degrees such as psychology or counselling or an apprenticeship in a range of professional roles including nursing and social work.

Entry requirements

For Level 1 entry, you will ideally need to have achieved four GCSEs at grades 1 or 2, including English and Maths.

For Level 2 entry, you will need to have achieved at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths

For Level 3 entry, you will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including English and Maths.

You will also need to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate (DBS) Application, this is an active Criminal Record check to ensure suitability of working with Vulnerable People. This is completed after enrolments on the course and will be discussed further at interview.

Your next steps...

You can progress onto a range of degree programmes, including social work, nursing, occupational therapy and paramedic science. You can continue your studies through the University of Suffolk at East Coast College, or other universities.

You can also progress into an apprenticeship in subjects including social care work, healthcare and nursing.
