Course Details
Our Carpentry course will prepare you for specialised work, such as working on traditional hand cut roofs, and provide you with an insight into site management. In practical lessons, you will work through projects to develop your hands-on skills, in our on-site carpentry workshops.
Through our Bench Joinery course (Lowestoft campus only), you will study health and safety, building methods and construction technology, and will learn how to set out, make and finish a variety of products such as doors, windows and stairs.
Through our Site Carpentry pathway (Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth campus), you will develop your skills in the installation of doors, windows and stairs. Our tutors will discuss the best route for you during your interview.
You can also progress to cover project management and supervisory roles through a higher level of study. You will develop trade skills, covering traditional hand cut roofing, curved joinery projects, double doors and stairs incorporating a turn.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of methods including practical and theory. You will also benefit from industry speakers who can provide an insight into the real world environment.

Your next steps...
You can progress into an apprenticeship or employment in careers such as a kitchen fitter, general site operative, teacher, wood machinist, joiner, window fitter, site carpenter, formwork or shuttering carpenter.
Former students have gone onto work within the industry or have even set up their own businesses. Many are now helping to train the workforce of the future as they have taken on apprentices of their own.
