Course Summary

At Easton College, the Level 2 Sport course aims to progress and promote students to make advances in their English and Maths, as well as the vocation of Sport. The course is aimed at capturing the essential skills of managing self; managing relationships with others; and managing own learning, performance and work. It is these skills that will enable young people to enter work and adult life confident and capable.

Course Details

Students will study a Level 2 Certificate in Sport and are likely to cover the following units:

  • Anatomy and physiology (Exam)
  • Fitness Training (Exam)
  • Practical Sport Performance
  • *Sport Performer in Action
  • Leading Sports Activities
  • *The Mind and Sport Performance
  • Lifestyle and Wellbeing
  • Sport Injury

This qualification will give you a good understanding and knowledge of the sports and active leisure sector as well as developing the essential skills required for employment or progression to further qualifications and training. Your team work and communication skills will be developed through course activities, both of which are key skills future employers look for.

Good English and Maths skills are essential for many jobs and courses you will progress onto. The Government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim. Depending on your grades when you start your course, you could either study Functional Skills or GCSEs alongside the other parts of your course programme.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods including some externally assessed core units and internally assessed mandatory and optional units. Assessment methods could include assignments, research projects, presentations, roles players, group discussions.


Entry requirements

4 GCSE's at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths.

Equipment required

There will be costs for equipment, uniform and trips. These include: Approximately £100-120 for uniform, £20 course materials, £100 contribution for enrichment activities. Financial support could be available depending on your circumstances.

If you successfully complete the course, with a good attendance and disciplinary record, you could progress onto:

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Sport Coaching and Development)
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence)

These experiences will be gained alongside Norfolk Schools Sports Partnership, Community Sport Foundation, Active Norfolk, Easton Higher Education, and AOC Sport, as well as other members of the college and local community through internal and external visits.

Give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the sport development and leadership sector. Junior job roles include: Community Sport Coach, Activity Leader or Multi-Sport Coach.

With these points considered, the course also intends for each student to make new positive connections within their community and be a valued, effective member of society.
