Course Summary
Land-Based Technicians carry out a range of tasks on land-based machinery equipment. The job role ranges from routine maintenance to repairing mechanical faults. This requires a blend of skills, industry knowledge and disciplines.
These may include performing service and maintenance, preparing equipment and components for repair according to procedures or written briefs, conducting routine machine operation and systems testing, and handing over machinery and equipment to the control and use of others in the workplace. The industry will present technical challenges ranging from simple mechanics to diagnosing and repairing complex systems. These processes may take place in the workplace or on the customer’s site, requiring flexible working hours.
Course Details
On our City and Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Land-Based Engineering you will study the following disciplines: health and safety at work, engine operation, transmissions, hydraulics, vehicle electrics, fabrication, work shop practices, machinery operations and working in the land-based engineering industry.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed over the one-year course by the following three assessments: Level 2 Land-Based Engineering - synoptic (practical) assignment, Level 2 Land-Based Engineering – theory exam and Level 2 health and safety for the land-based industries – theory exam (online)
Entry requirements
You will need to achieve four GCSEs at grade 3 or above , including English language and Maths.

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to an Apprenticeship, full time work with training or another college course.
Where Your Course Can Take You :-
Our students go on to a wide variety of roles with leading employers in the land-based industry as apprentices or in full time work. Students can also progress into engineering in other fields such as mechanical engineers, aviation mechanics/engineers, engineers within the Armed Forces. Some students will use their Land-based Engineering qualification to gain jobs in other parts of the agricultural industry.
