Course Summary

Course Details

The UAL Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts provides opportunities for students to explore, develop and test their creativity while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the sector.

The qualification draws upon established approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that are successfully proven to appeal to and engage students seeking practical study over a more academic study route.

The UAL Awarding Body Level 1 Award in Music, Performing and Production Arts is designed to provide an opportunity for those who have an interest in music, performing and production arts to explore some of the materials, methods and

processes that support many music, performing and production arts activities. The Course is very practical and hands-on and you will be expected to contribute to our many performances both in our Platform Theatre and within the wider community.

The qualifications will enable learners to:

> Be introduced to the equipment and processes used in music, performing and production arts, and the skills necessary to record and express ideas

> Be aware of how contextual research is used to support creative activities

> Be introduced to the communication skills used in support of creative activities and develop an understanding of the role that communication skills play in informing and developing ideas

> Use previously acquired skills, knowledge and understanding to explore and resolve creative problems

> Demonstrate personal strengths in music, performing and production arts and to use the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in previous units.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden student's skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require students to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students and staff. A final end-point assessment (commonly referred to as the Final Major Project) decides the student's overall grade for the year which is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve a selection of GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English language, maths and preferably a drama-related subject. Experience of engaging in Youth Drama outside of school is also an advantage.

Your next steps...

Successful completion of our Level 1 Diploma will normally lead onto either Level 2 Performance (Musical Theatre) or Level 2 Dance. Alternatively students can use the Level 1 Diploma to develop the skills such as collaborative problem-solving, communication, working to a brief which are skills much valued by employers, particularly within the Travel and Tourism sector
