Course Summary

Units you may study include:

Electrical installation planning, preparing and designing

Electrical installation craft skills

Inspecting, testing and commissioning of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment

Electrical science and principals

Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment

Understanding environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems

Course Details

Are you interested in being part of the exciting and growing electrical industry?

We have excellent links with regional employers including those in the offshore sector where many of our students secure apprenticeships such as Pharos Marine.

You will learn through practical and theory lessons held in our specialist electrical installation workshops using the very latest industry-standard equipment. Units you will study will include inspecting, testing and commissioning of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, electrical science and principals, and diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems.

You will also learn electrical installation craft skills, develop an understanding of environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will be predominately through practical tasks in the workshop.

Entry requirements

For Level 1 entry, you will need to have achieved GCSE grade 3 or above in English and Maths.

For Level 2 entry, you will need to have completed Level 1 and/or achieved at least a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths.

For Level 3 entry, you will need to have completed Level 2.

Your next steps...

After completing this course, you may progress onto an apprenticeship, into employment or one day set up your own business. Many students are now helping to train the workforce of the future as they have also taken on apprentices of their own.

Career opportunities include turbine technician, alarm engineer, domestic electrician, lighting designer, solar PV electrician and network engineer.
