Course Summary

This course would be perfect for anyone hoping to go into support in the NHS, healthcare more generally or social care related role.

  • You will gain an in-depth understanding of the roles in the healthcare sector
  • You will learn how to support and work with adults and young people
  • You will work with experts in the field of healthcare and undertake your own on-the-job projects

Anyone considering any type of vocational health care qualification including (but not limited to) nursing (any discipline), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy assistant. It could lead straight into employment such as ambulance support worker, healthcare support worker in a health setting.

Course Details

The course is split across ‘core content’ in the first year and then specialist routes and material in the second. On this course you’ll have the chance to learn about how to support and work with other healthcare professionals, how to provide the best care for patients and how to follow all the necessary regulations and guidance in the sector. You’ll get a great grounding in the area and be fully prepared to go on to study health and science related degrees and apprenticeships, or go straight into the workplace.

Core topics and content include:

  • Working with the healthcare sector
  • Providing person-centred care
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Infection prevention and control in health specific settings
  • Managing personal information

Specialist topics and content:

  • Assisting with an individual’s overall care
  • Assisting health professionals with therapeutic tasks and interventions
  • Taking physiological measurements
  • Exploring specialist application in mental health and when working with young people

Assessment:

  • 2 written exams
  • Employer set project

Entry requirements

A grade 4 in maths and 5 in English; a grade 5/5 in combined science is preferred.
