T Level Accounting

In the UK the accounting sector is worth approximately £6 billion, with over 7500 organisations and just under 50,000 employees. Accountants not only manage the finances of organisations, ranging from sole traders through to large corporate companies, but they are involved in the decision-making for the business, based on their financial accounting expertise. All careers in accounting require good communication skills, time management, attention to detail, data analysis, and strong business acumen. Working in the accounting sector also requires the ability to work both in teams and individually and across a range of internal and external stakeholders.

This qualification is for you if you want to start a career as, for example, an assistant accountant or payroll administrator. It is designed for post-16 students and is an ideal qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the accountancy or payroll sector in roles such as assistant accountant, payroll junior or payroll clerk, to an accountancy related apprenticeship, or to further studies in accountancy or payroll.

In the second year you will concentrate on the occupational specialism involved in the role of “Assistant Accountant” and is assessed by a project that is created in conjunction with relevant employers. The content of the occupational

specialism will cover the following topics:

- Producing and analysing a trial balance

- Preparing primary financial statements

- Analysing business performance and presenting results

- Providing support to tax and audit functions

- Preparing computations for payroll.

English grade 5. Maths grade 5. Science 4,4.

You can progress directly into the workplace in a junior accounting role. You can join a local or national employer on their training scheme or on an accountancy related apprenticeship. This type of role could include working within the accountancy function for an accountancy firm, within the accountancy department of a large or small employer. Carrying out the duties of payroll, auditing or enabling companies or individuals to complete their tax returns and be financially compliant. Many organisations will provide on the job training with practical workplace experience and assist you to gain professional qualifications, from globally renowned professional bodies, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) & the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

You can continue your studies at University with a degree in Accountancy, Finance or Business Management.
