Course Summary

For students who fall just short of the entry requirements for Level 3 study, we offer a Foundation Year designed to prepare you for your next steps. The programme will help you develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and qualifications you need to progress onto A Level or Vocational courses in our sixth form.

Students aged 16-19 will follow a personalised programme that combines a Foundation Certificate in Digital Systems & Data or Education & Early Years with English and Maths resit opportunities. Alongside your studies, you will develop employability skills through work experience, enrichment and social action. This pathway is designed to help you build a strong foundation for your future, whether your next step is further study, an apprenticeship, university or employment.

Course Details

Digital Systems & Data (Develop practical digital skills, knowledge and confidence for progression into Level 3 Digital, IT, or related subjects)

OR

Education & Early Years (Explore child development, education and early years practice, preparing you for further study in this area)

AND

English & Maths Resit (Continue working towards a Level 2 (GCSE Grade 4-5) where required. Develop literacy, numeracy and communication skills needed for further study, employment and everyday life.)

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Combination of internal coursework and external examinations for Digital Systems & Data OR Education & Early Years. External examinations for GCSE English and Maths resit.

Entry requirements

E.g 6+6+5+5+4+4+3+3 = 36 points (Average grade 4.5)

Some A level qualifications will require a grade 6 to access them (please check with subject curriculum leaders if this applies to their course)

To study three Vocational / Technical Qualifications: A minimum of 30 points. These points will be accumulated from your top 8 KS4 grades. For example a student who achieves the following grades would meet the entry criteria.

E.g 5+5+4+4+3+3+3+3 = 30 points (Average grade 3.75)

Some Vocational qualifications will require a Level 2 Merit or grade 4 to access them

Hybid curriculum (A Level and Vocational combination): If you wish to study a mixture of A Levels and Vocational courses, we will use a combination from above.

Foundation Year: If you do not meet the entry criteria we recommend that you follow our Foundation Year and a three year pathway to secure Level 3 qualifcations. See page 11 for further details.

Entry criteria is a guide and interviews will be conducted with candidates to confirm if they are suitable to follow their selected courses.
