Norfolk County Council's Post16 Travel Scheme
Most local bus and train operators offer discounted fares for students. It is worth checking these before you consider applying to Norfolk County Council's Post16 Travel Scheme as they often offer a better discount.
Under the 2022/23 Post16 Travel Scheme the standard yearly contribution that you would make towards your son or daughter's transport is £576. If your family is receiving a low income benefit, you can apply for a 25% reduction, so you would pay £432 for the year. You can pay in instalments and a daily payer option is also available on some routes. This may change for 2023/24.
For the latest information about travel and transport options, including operator discounts, go to Norfolk County Council's Post16 Travel Scheme or call 0344 800 8020
Please note: transport support under the Post16 Travel Scheme is only available for full time education. It is not available to young people on apprenticeships.
Cycle allowances
A cycling grant of £200 per year is available from Norfolk County Council to support young people to cycle to college or sixth form as a healthy and green alternative.
Your son or daughter can claim this grant if they are entitled to post-16 travel assistance. If they receive a cycling allowance they won't get any other help with transport.
Moped loans
If your son or daughter will have difficulty getting to work, training or education, Kickstart can provide them with a moped loan.
For more information and application details contact Kickstart on 01362 699923. Your son/daughter will need a provisional licence to use a moped.
TITAN (Travel Independence Training across Norfolk)
TITAN offer travel training to young people with SEND or to those who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP). The service is offered to young people moving on to further education at a Norfolk college or sixth form. The TITAN+ programme offers support to gain the skills and confidence needed to travel independently.
The school your son or daughter attends may have already spoken to you about this programme but, if not, you can read more about it and make an application here.
Transport provision provided by Norfolk County Council changes when young people move on to Post 16 education. All applications to TITAN+ programme will be considered in line with the county council's Post16 transport policy where relevant.
If we are able to support young people with TITAN+ Travel Training the service is provided for free by the county council. You can find out more about TITAN Travel Training and some useful parent/carer factsheets by visiting the TITAN website.
You can also find further information about travelling independently and TITAN travel training on the SEND Local Offer website.
