Course Details

Completion of the course will give you specialist knowledge and technical skills within the land and wildlife sector. You will learn how to identify species, conduct ecological surveys, restore habitats and understand a variety of conservation methods used to manage British wildlife. It combines both academic study with practical-based learning in a variety of settings, providing learners with a realistic experience.

What will I study on this course?

During the course, you'll work on the following units:

Health and safety for the land-based industries; understand legislation, risk assessments and safe working in outdoor and land environments.
Working in the land and wildlife industry; explore roles, habitats, species, and the practical demands of working in countryside settings.
Machinery used in the land and wildlife industry; learn about the operation, maintenance and safe handling of land-based machinery.
Conservation and improvements to British habitats; design and carry out habitat restoration, take species surveys, and implement ecological improvements.
Estate maintenance; develop skills in land management, boundary work, drainage, fencing and general upkeep.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This programme is assessed by a combination of assignments, practical assessments and off-site visits.

Entry requirements

You will need:

4 or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or higher, with at least one Grade 4 in either English, maths or science.

Or:

A relevant level 1 Animal Care qualification at merit grade studied at CWA or another further education provider. This does not include level 1 courses studied at school alongside GCSEs. You will also need an improved grade in English or maths.
