Course Summary

Our new intermediate diploma in brickwork gives you the hands on experience and knowledge required to progress onto a level 2 course ahead of an apprenticeship or employment.

Course Details

What will I study on this course?

Youll develop hands-on bricklaying skills and understanding across key areas:

  • Introduction to the brickwork trade; learn about job roles, responsibilities, tools, equipment, materials and sustainable work practices
  • Health, safety and welfare; understand safe working practices, hazard awareness, PPE use, manual handling and staying safe on site
  • Setting out/setting up; gain skills in measuring, reading drawings, marking out, levelling and preparing for brickwork
  • Laying brickwork and blockwork; practice laying different types of bricks and blocks, building walls, corners and openings, and constructing simple bonding patterns.
  • Mortar mixing and jointing; mix and apply mortar; learn how jointing affects appearance, strength and water resistance
  • Manipulating brickwork; cut bricks and blocks, build curved walls and arches, and repair and maintain existing structures

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your progress will be measured through practical and written assignments, backed by quality checks.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 2 and above including English and Maths
