Application Instructions

For All courses except Beauty - choose three first choice subjects from four different option blocks. You will be asked just before submitting your application to choose three second choice subjects. They must be from the same Option Blocks as you first choices. For instance, if your first three choices are from Blocks A,B and D your second choice courses must also be from Blocks A, B and D

For Beauty just choose this subject by itself.

In order to follow an academic Level 3 programme of study you must achieve five or more GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 5 or above, including English Language or Literature and Mathematics.

In order to follow a vocational or mixed Level 3 programme of study, it is desirable that you achieve five or more GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 5 or above, including English Language or Literature and Mathematics. Those students without a 4 in English or mathematics, will take a level 2 qualification in these as part of their studies.

In addition you must achieve the GCSE grades specified for individual subjects which is outlined under each of the course descriptions

Course Summary

According to NHS England the Health and Social Care sector employs 1.48 million people and will have half a million extra jobs available by 2030. The Government has set out the need for the health and social care sectors to develop new integrated care models to promote health and wellbeing and provide care. In the future, this could mean your career crossing both sectors in new and exciting roles. If you choose to work in a Health or Social Care role you will be making a positive impact on someone's life, this will lead to an enormous sense of personal achievement, self pride and job satisfaction.

Course Details

Unit 1 - Human Lifespan and Development

Students examine physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan, the interaction between biological and social factors in health and well-being and how health care professionals provide effective care.

Unit 3 – Principles of Health & Social care

Students explore the organisation, structure and normal physiological functioning of the human body, and the effect on health of common disorders of the body systems.

Unit 2 - Working in Health and Social Care

Students focus on the principles that underpin meeting the care and support needs of individuals, which are the foundation of all services within health and social care.

Unit 5 – Promoting Health Education

Students explore the purpose of health education, models and approaches to educating the public and encouraging behaviour change in the population.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

At Victory, in Health and Social Care we aim to deliver the length and breadth of the curriculum in detail with as much application to real life situations as possible to allow all students studying this course to relish in finding a career they love. With the use of guest speakers, scenario style and based lessons, students will have a real taste for life working in this field. Excellent attendance, positive attitude to learning and being keen to learn new things are imperative in being successful on this course.

Entry requirements

In order to follow a Vocational or mixed Level 3 programme of study you should have achieved five or more GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 5s or above, including English Language or Literature and mathematics although we will apply some flexibility where you can demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for this subject, yet you may not fully match our entry requirements. Those students without a 4 in English or mathematics, will take a level 2 qualification in these as part of their studies.

Your next steps...

This qualification will enable learners to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in the Health and Social Care sector. The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher education institutions as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses. This course would also allow students to seek an apprenticeship style qualification in the sector of Health and Social Care. After completing your study of Health and Social Care you will have a wealth of knowledge of a vast range of job roles that practice in the sector. During this time the aim is that you find your passion and love for a certain area and future career pathway, this may include - Nursing, GP, Occupational Therapy, Social Care, Youth Worker, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Paramedics, Midwifery, Care Home, Support Worker.
