Health & Social Care - New AAQ BTEC (Single)

Student entry into our Sixth Form requires 5 grade 4 GCSE's or above including English and Maths.

If you studied the applied subject at GCSE we are asking for a grade 5 in that subjects (Grade 6 in Maths)

This is a new course and will be the equivalent to 1 A-Level

The qualification has three mandatory units covering the following topics: • Human Lifespan and Development – PIES and factors affecting growth and development, interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment

Human Biology and Health – Human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning and the impact of common disorders

Health and Social Care Practice – Core principles, values and legislation that underpin and influence health and social care, and the effect of social determinants on an individual health status (coursework)

A 4th option unit will decided at a later date from 1 of the follow areas

Promoting Health Education

Safe Environments in Health and Social Care

Health Science

2 x units are exam based

2x units are internally assessed through a Pearson set assignment brief, which is a controlled assessment.

If applying for an A Level course that you have studied at GCSE it is expected that you would attain a minimum of a Grade 5 in this subject.

Health and Social Care combines well with subjects such as Psychology, Sociology and Biology. It is an extremely diverse subject and can open up many career, Apprenticeship and Higher Education opportunities for the future in areas including early-years services, social work, nursing, occupational health, physiotherapy, counselling and other related health and social care sector careers.
