Course Summary

This GCSE will focus on developing your reading and writing skills. In class, you will practice exam technique and read extracts from a range of texts, both fiction and non-fiction to develop your analytical skills. It is a gateway qualification to most A level subjects

Course Details

Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing. This is worth 50% of the GCSE.
Section A: Reading
- Response to a piece of unseen literary fiction
Section B: Writing
- Descriptive or narrative writing
Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives. This is worth 50% of the GCSE.
Section A: Reading
- One non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text
Section B: Writing
- Writing to present a viewpoint
Spoken Language tasks will assess your presenting skills, as well as the way you respond to questions and feedback, and your use of Standard English.
There will also be Spoken Language assessments, which will be assessed in class and separately endorsed.

Entry requirements

Grade 3 in English Language GCSE.
Assessment
Students with a level 3 will be able to take a re-sit examination in November and again in June if needed. Students also take a speaking and listening endorsement.
