Course Summary
Our comprehensive dog grooming course offers a balanced blend of practical skills and theoretical knowledge. While hands-on training forms the core, theory sessions are thoughtfully integrated to prepare learners for their exams. In our professional and business-like grooming parlour, students will interact with customers, honing essential customer care skills.
Course Details
The programme content includes:
- Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and clean dogs
- Dry dogs and prepare a dog for styling
- Carry out trimming of a dogs coat to prepare for styling
- Move and Lift dogs
- Maintain the cleanliness and biosecurity grooming environment
- Professional Conduct
- Introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behaviour of dogs
- Checking the health and welfare of dogs under your care
- Observation skills
- Practical use of dog grooming equipment
Full time learners will be in college but will have an external work placement in a dog grooming setting of 60 hours within the year.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is completed via an external exam and practical assessments.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- 4 or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or higher
Or:
- A relevant Level 1 qualification at merit grade studied at CWA or another further education provider. This does not include level 1 courses studied at school alongside GCSEs.
