Childcare - Early Years Practitioner - Level 2

If you wish to enter employment at assistant level within the childcare sector or progress to a higher level of study or apprenticeship, this course is for you.

On this course you will study a range of units including:

• Roles and responsibilities of the Early years Practitioner
• Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
• Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
• Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
• Understand how to support children's development
• Support care routines for babies and young children
• Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes
• Promote play in an Early Years Setting
• Support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
• Support babies and young children to be physically active
• Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
• Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings
• Partnership working in the early years
• Support the needs of children in preparing for school
• You are required to complete 250 hours work placement in an OFSTED registered provider where you will have 3 observations. (You will be in college 3 days a week and in work placement 2 days a week whilst completing this qualification. CWA has a dedicated team of work placement co-ordinators to support you with this).

The course is assessed by a range of methods, which may include projects, booklets, posters, assignments, case studies and coursework linked to work experience.

Learners must also complete a work placement as laid down in the course specification criteria.

Each unit will be graded a pass or referral, but learners will be encouraged and supported to develop their work beyond pass level in preparation for progression.

You will need:

• 4 or more GCSEs at grade 3 or above, which must include both English Language and maths.
  Ideally students will have English or maths at Grade 4 or above.
• An enhanced DBS check (which will be applied for in your first term at college).

Or (for internal applicants):

• A relevant Level 1 qualification, such as the Level 1 Diploma Introduction to Health, Social Care, Children's and Young People's Settings and satisfactory progress in your English Language and maths last year.
• An enhanced DBS check (which will be applied for in your first term at college).
