*Please choose 3 subject courses from different blocks, you will automatically be added to Maths or English resit classes on enrolment if you do not achieve required 4 in Maths or English Lit/Lang but you must still meet requirements for entry per subject.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
As part of the Health and Social Care course students will learn about human lifespan development and skills and factors that impact service users' quality of life in health and social care settings. The course also teaches students about health, early years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector. Students will learn about how to meet the needs of service users and how to communicate effectively. They also learn about health conditions, the impact of these on people's lives and patient care. Part of the course involves developing skills of research, evaluation and problem-solving in a work-related context.

What will I study?
In the Health and Social Care course, you'll explore topics such as human lifespan development, factors affecting quality of life in health and social care settings, health conditions, early years care, social care, and issues in the care sector. You'll learn how to meet service users' needs and communicate effectively. The course also emphasizes research, evaluation, and problem-solving in a work-related context.
How is the course assessed?
Year One
· Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development: Assessed through an external exam lasting 1.5 hours, taken in May of Year 12.
· Unit 3: Principles of Health and Social Care Practice: Assessed by the internal assessment of a Pearson Set Assignment Brief.
Year Two
· Unit 2: Human Biology & Health: Assessed externally through a 1.5-hour exam, taken in January of Year 13.
· The final unit is to be confirmed. This will be assessed by the internal assessment of a Pearson Set Assignment Brief. For further information see the exam board website Health and Social Care (AAQ) | Pearson qualifications
External assessments make up 50% of the course, while internal assessments contribute 50%.
Entry requirements
What will I need to study this course?
You don't need to have studied Health and Social Care before taking the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate. Good written communication skills are important, so having a grade 5 or higher in GCSE English Language would be helpful.
