You don't need to have studied Information Technology before taking the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate. Good written communication skills are important, so having a grade 5 or higher in GCSE English Language would be helpful.

What will I study?

In the Information Technology course, you'll explore topics such as Information Technology systems, creating systems to manage information, using social media in business and website development. You'll learn how to create a working website, set up a business database and communicate effectively. The course also emphasizes research, evaluation, and problem-solving in a work-related context.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

How is the course assessed?

Year One

· Unit 1: Information Technology Systems: Assessed through an external exam lasting 1.5 hours, taken in June of Year 12.

· Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business: Assessed internally through a portfolio of evidence focusing on how you have planned and used social media to improve business.

Year Two

· Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information: Assessed externally through a 1.5-hour exam, taken in January of Year 2.

· Unit 6: Website Development: Assessed internally through a portfolio of evidence focusing on the design and creation of a website to meet the needs of an organization.

External assessments make up 58% of the course, while internal assessments contribute 42%.
