Course Summary

Film is the most important art-form of the last 100 years, bringing together people of all nations and providing entertainment and cultural information whilst pushing the boundaries of technology.

At AS, the main focus is Hollywood and British Cinema. You’ll cover the history of film from its origins in 1895 up to the present day, and you’ll make close textual analysis of a number of key films.

At A2, you’ll study national cinemas and influential film movements. Throughout the course you’ll gain understanding and enjoyment of a wide variety of films. There is scope to analyse and explore films, filmmakers and actors that appeal to you and you’ll be able to produce coursework projects centred on people and texts that you are passionate about.
