Course Summary
Spanish is widely spoken all over the world. The ability to communicate in other languages in addition to your own will give you another perspective on many aspects of life. Studying Spanish A-Level will give the students the chance to further advance their linguistic and communicative skills and give a deeper insight into Hispanic social, artistic, cultural and political topics.
Course Details
This varied and interesting course will give you an insight into social and political issues in the Spanish speaking world, including modern and traditional values, immigration and integration, Spanish regional identity and political life in the Spanish speaking world.
Students will delve into the country's art and culture and hone their language skills through a focus on grammar and translation.
The course covers 12 units over the two years including: the influence of the internet, the feminist movement, multiculturalism, regional heritage, monarchies and dictatorships.
For the literature part of the exam students study the film, Ocho Apellidos Vascos by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro, and the book Como Agua Como Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.
Entry requirements
5 GCSEs Level 9-4, Level 5 in relevant subject area.
If you are doing GCSE Spanish you need to get a Grade 5+.
If you are not doing GCSE Spanish then you need to have had experience living or studying in a Spanish speaking country.

Students who study Spanish A-Level can move on to any career and often many continue this at university. Students can have access to learning another language at university too. Spanish A-Level can lead to jobs in tourism, translation, hospitality, marketing, business or education.
