Course Summary

Studying Psychology enriches us by helping us to understand human behaviour much better, with all its social interaction, language, communication, motivation, emotions, and decision making. If you study psychology you'll be able to hone your analytical and organisational skills and learn about scientific research methods, including collecting and working with data. Learning about human behaviour can also help to build your communication skills and improve your teamwork and leadership skills.

Course Details

Our qualification offers students an engaging and stimulating introduction to the study of psychology, combined with the academic integrity and skills that Higher Education and employers value. The course has a strong element of statistics and scientific research and evaluation.

There are three parts to A-Level Psychology. You will study:

(1) Introductory topics: social influence, memory attachment and psychopathology.

(2) Psychology in context: approaches, biopsychology and research methods.

(3) Issues and options in Psychology: Issues and debates and then pupils can choose 3 topics from: relationships, gender, cognition, schizophrenia, eating behavior, stress, aggression, forensic psychology and addiction.

The subject of Psychology involves text book analysis, group discussions, evaluation of presented written materials and students’ own written work. Essays are based on known theorists and their work. A good standard of spoken and written communication is needed.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Level 9-4, Level 5 in relevant subject area.

If you are doing GCSE Psychology you need to get a Grade 5+.

If you are not doing GCSE Psychology then you need to get a Grade 5+ in English Language and a Grade 5+ in mathematics.
