Course Summary

Politics affects every aspect of our lives and is constantly changing and evolving. The A-Level helps you understand the role politics plays in relation to current local, national, and global issues. Politics also involves us considering issues from a wide range of perspectives, helping us to understand differences in opinions.

Course Details

This course has been designed to encourage an interest in and enthusiasm for the study of Government and Politics and will enable students to develop an insight into political beliefs central to an understanding of the modern world.

During Year 12 you will learn about UK government and politics, covering concepts such as democracy and participation, political parties, Parliament, voting behaviour and concepts such as liberalism, conservatism, socialism, feminism, anarchism and multiculturalism.

During Year 13 you will study the government and politics of the USA.

During the course you will develop your reasoning, debating and analytical skills by taking part in seminars, class debates and knowledge tests, alongside independent study and essay writing.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Level 9-4, Level 5 in relevant subject area.

A Grade 5+ in English Language

A Grade 5+ in History would also be beneficial. Alternative Grade 5+ in Geography will be accepted.
