Course Instructions

Most students will choose the equivalent of 3 A Levels but in some circumstances a maximum of 4. These are subjects that will continue for the full two years. Select only one subject from each option block (choosing more than 1 course from the same block will delay your application as courses from each block are timetabled at the same time). All courses are equivalent to 1 A Level except where specified differently below.

Dereham Education & Soccer Academy Including BTEC Diploma in Sport (equivalent to three A Level subjects, no other subject choices required).

If your choice of subjects are not available due to limitations of the blocks, please email us with the details: office@derehamsixthform.norfolk.sch.uk

Course Details

The Physical Education course develops your interest in sport from primarily a theoretical viewpoint. The content of the course addresses current topics in sport, as well as having a practical element.

We follow the AQA specification.

The theory element of the course consists of the following topic areas:

  • Applied anatomy and physiology
  • Exercise physiology
  • Biomechanical movement
  • Skill acquisition

  • Sport and society
  • The role of technology in physical activity and sport

The theoretical content is worth 70% of the qualification.

For the practical element of the course you should be competent in two sports and be regularly playing in at least one of these outside of an academic environment.

Assessment

The theoretical content is assessed through examination. For the practical element you will be assessed in non-examined assessment and practical. This non-examined assessment is worth 30% of the qualification and comprises of the Practical Performance and Performance Analysis, both of which will be internally assessed and externally moderated. The Practical Performance and Performance Analysis are worth 15% of the qualification each.
You will be assessed on one activity, either as a player/performer or coach, for your Practical Performance and then you will complete a Performance Analysis for that activity.
