Course Details

Gain an industry-recognised qualification and prepare for the world of work with our painting and decorating course. You will be taught by industry qualified decorators in our well-equipped and maintained decorating workshop.

During your course, you will develop your knowledge and practical skills, learning how to prepare surfaces, paint by brush and roller, complete wallpapering, decorative effects and colours, spraying, and understand health and safety practices.

As you progress you will also cover principles of construction. You will be encouraged to undertake work experience as part of your course to put the skills you have learnt at college into practice in industry.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will be predominately through practical tasks in the workshop.

Entry requirements

For Level 1 entry, you will need to have achieved at least an Entry Level 3 qualification in English and maths.

For Level 2 entry, you will need to have achieved a grade 3 or above in English and maths.

Your entry level will be assessed based on any previous experience you may have, initial aptitude test results and from discussing your goals and aspirations.

Your next steps...

You can progress to an apprenticeship or go straight into employment and progress in the industry in careers such as a site supervisor, employed/self employed painter and decorator, general site operative, teacher, new build development worker, technician or heritage worker.
