Course Summary
This qualification has been designed to provide a vocationally relevant course in popular music aimed at beginners through to
semi-professionals, which allow for both direct progression into the industry and/or progression to a higher level of study. It focuses
upon the recognition of achievement through practical musical skills, business skills and music technology skills.
Units:
1. Practical Harmony
2. Music Theory
3. Performing as a Featured Musician
Course Details
As a pathway to enhance your musical study, The RSL Certificate in Creative Music Industries will extend your theoretical and practical knowledge of musical concepts to support further study in A level Music or parallel study in A level Music Technology. You will complete 3 units of work, covering a range of skills and study in harmony, theory, listening skills and performance, which will be graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
This is a one-year qualification and is a perfect accompaniment to A Level Music and / or Music Technology. It is also a brilliant bridging course for anyone looking to study A Level Music, but who does not yet meet the set entry requirements.
Entry requirements
A grade 4 in GCSE English Language is essential and a grade 4 in Maths is desirable (grade 3 minimum). No prior music qualification is necessary but a very keen interest in music as a performer and or technologist in some form is important.
Anyone looking to progress to A Level Music should have at least a grade 3 in a musical instrument. Vocalists are also encouraged.
If you select this qualification, you can also compliment your studies by joining our 'Performer' ENhance option, which will give you further opportunities to perform solo on ensemble pieces, and take part in internal and external performances, such as the East Norfolk Christmas and End of Year Shows, and the Royal Norfolk Show.
Your next steps...
The RSL in the Creative Music Industry will support progression to university, higher degree apprenticeships and pursuing a career in the music sector.
The one-year course is perfect as a bridging for students who do not yet meet entry requirements for A Level Music, or as an option for someone looking to select a one-year course for their second or third year of study.
A one-lesson option will also be available as an ENhance opportunity, and successful completion of the content will result in the achievement of an RSL Award qualification.
