History is a fascinating subject that allows students to develop their understanding of the present world through the consequences of past actions and events. It helps students to develop their literacy skills to develop enquiring and analytical minds. It also develops their research skills and their powers of reasoning. The course has been chosen to offer a wide range of subject matter in British and European history.

Unit 1: Britain 1930 - 1997 (Enquiry topic: Churchill 1930 - 1951)
The unit will focus on areas such as Churchill as wartime Prime Minister and international diplomacy. It will also look at Conservative and Labour governments - scandals, problems and policies.

Unit 2: The French Revolution and the rule of Napoleon 1977 - 1815
This unit covers a range of topics such as the causes of the French Revolution and the events from 1789. It also looks as the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte, covering social and political issues at home and military campaigns abroad.

Unit 3: The challenge of German Nationalism
This unit of study focuses on significant developments in Germany which characterised nationalism in different forms from the emerging movement in the early 19th century to the achievement of unification and finally the collapse of monarchy.
