In addition most subjects require at least a grade 5 at GCSE in order to take them at Level 3. Maths and Science subjects require a grade 6.

Course Summary

Is this course for me?

A star is born. Geography, for so long a Cinderella subject, the easy option for students who found physics or chemistry too daunting, is soaring in popularity. According to the Royal Geographical Society, 13% more took the subject at A-level this year than last, up to 37,100 – the biggest jump of any of the major subjects.

Geography is a subject for our times.

What will I learn?

The topics are;

1: Dynamic Landscapes

2: Dynamic Places

3: Physical Systems and Sustainability

4: Human Systems and Geopolitics

5: Fieldwork (minimum 4 day residential visit – TBA)

6: Coursework and Independent Investigation

It is inherently multidisciplinary in a world that increasingly values people who have the skills needed to work across the physical and social sciences. Geographers get to learn data analysis, and to follow some of the most influential scientists working in the world today. You will learn geographic information systems and can turn maps from a two-dimensional representation of a country’s physical contours into a tool that illustrates social attributes or attitudes: not just where people live, but how, what they think and how they vote. You will learn about the physics of climate change, or the interaction of weather events and flood risk, or the way people’s behaviour is influenced by the space around them, for better or for worse.

Anything else I need to know?

There are also great trips including Iceland, East England coastline and local rivers and environs.
