A level subjects, which subjects are you interested in studying?
Please choose SIX subjects.
For each subject please choose an order of preference. Choose option 1 in the subject which you would most like to study, option 2 in your second subject choice and continue until you have your six subject options.

Optional enrichment courses:
you may choose Mathematical Studies in addition to the A Level subjects you will take in Year 12.

Mathematical Studies is a level 3 maths qualification aimed at students who have a level 4,5 or 6 in maths at GCSE. It is designed to improve students’ mathematical and problem solving skills and to help with the maths in other subjects such as the sciences, psychology, geography and economics.

Course Details

Fine Art, Photography and Art, Craft and Design
A level
These courses will develop and challenge your intellectual, imaginative and creative skills. In lessons you will investigate many creative media to develop your experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills.

Fine Art
Students will produce practical and critical or contextual work in one or more areas of study, for example, drawing, painting, mixed-media, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking, moving image (video, film, animation) and photography.

Photography
Students will produce practical and critical or contextual work in one or more areas, for example, portraiture, landscape photography, still-life, documentary, photojournalism, fashion photography, experimental imagery, multimedia, photographic installation and moving image (video, film, animation).

Art, craft & design
This is a broad based course exploring practical and critical or contextual work through a range of 2D and/or 3D processes and media associated with two or more of fine art, textile design or photography.

What’s expected?
We expect you to have an interest in art, craft, design, animation and photography. You will be hard working, self motivated and able to think independently. You will produce coursework that is continually assessed and you will also complete an externally set assignment producing a final outcome under exam conditions.

You will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of media, including traditional and new technologies. You will visit galleries and artists’ studios and we offer a variety of artist led workshops which introduce you to a range of exciting materials and media. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary and historical societies and cultures.

Entry requirements

A minimum level 5 in GCSE Art and Design and/or an art portfolio of an appropriate standard, showing a range of work and skills appropriate to the course.

Students who follow a creative path through Art & Design have a wide range of possible careers and higher education opportunities as you learn and use a wide variety of transferable skills.
