Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Silver & Gold)

EN is always looking for new avenues to expand the student experience and now there are even more ways for young people to explore wider horizons.

The College has expanded and enhanced its provision of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

The DofE is a nationally recognised Award where participants develop key employability skills and attributes valued not only in the workplace but also in our wider communities. These skills include communication, teamwork, problem solving, self-management and a positive approach to work. Students complete activities in four sections, volunteering, physical, skills development and expeditions, with an additional residential element for the Gold Award. To help more students achieve the Award the College has invested in a more focused team supporting students in completing their activities. The intention is not only that this will be good for the students but will filter out into the wider community too, impacting as many stakeholders as possible.

EN Principal Dr Catherine Richards said, “Achieving a DofE Award requires resilience and commitment and enables young people to see how their efforts add value and impact, both to themselves and others. We know that by enhancing our offer in this excellent scheme students will not only develop a range of key skills supporting their future employability, but they will also be contributing more to the local community, helping to make Gorleston an even better place to live and work.”

With new activities planned across all the sections, links into community groups being developed, and the first expeditions heading out this June there is much to look forward to.
