Course Details

Drama
A Level
On this exciting course, students study and perform four plays in the first year. In the second year students devise a play and work as a director on a text chosen by the exam board. Students work intensively together to discuss, produce and analyse drama texts.

Why drama?
An A level in drama is a very useful qualification – students tend to be good communicators and the course prepares students for degrees in drama, English and other humanities. It also adds an interesting dimension to students who study the sciences or business. Drama qualifications are also useful for students considering careers in social work, teaching and all aspects of the media.

What’s expected?
We expect our students to be motivated and interested in all aspects of the theatre. You should want to see and discuss all manner of theatre, drama and live performance, as well as enjoy refining and exploring your own diverse practical skills. You are expected to expected to keep notes of class work, annotate scripts in rehearsals and run practical workshops.

Entry requirements

You do not have to have followed a course in GCSE Drama, but it is considered an advantage to have done so. We also advise at least a grade 5 in English GCSE. The main requirement is a willingness to perform in all aspects of the subject.

Your next steps...

Performing Arts, Theatre Administration, Acting Profession/Drama school, Sales, Communications. Further study at degree level of Drama, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts. Drama and Theatre Studies complement a range of subjects and are useful in building confidence and improving presentation.
