Course Instructions

Most students will choose the equivalent of 3 A Levels but in some circumstances a maximum of 4. These are subjects that will continue for the full two years. Select only one subject from each option block (choosing more than 1 course from the same block will delay your application as courses from each block are timetabled at the same time). All courses are equivalent to 1 A Level except where specified differently below.

Dereham Education & Soccer Academy Including BTEC Diploma in Sport (equivalent to three A Level subjects, no other subject choices required).

If your choice of subjects are not available due to limitations of the blocks, please email us with the details: office@derehamsixthform.norfolk.sch.uk

Course Details

The course will equip you with design skills for the future. It will help you to recognise and interpret design needs and develop and understanding of how current global issues, including integrating technology, impact on today’s world. We will encourage and nurture your creativity and innovation and aim to give you the confidence to innovate and produce creative design solutions as you develop your own design brief with a client and/or end user. In Year 12 you will develop and enhance your design and practical skills and technical knowledge through small scale projects. In Year 13 you will complete the Design and Make Project.

It is expected that you are passionate about designing and have an aptitude for creativity and problem solving. You should also have a sound knowledge of materials and commercial manufacturing techniques. You will need enthusiasm, commitment, an open creative mind and a willingness to learn.

We will follow the Eduqas (part of WJEC) specification.

Entry requirements

Students can be accepted from any of the GCSE D&T disciplines, but Resistant Materials, Product Design or Graphic Products is the more standard route. You will need a Grade 6 in this subject as this course is demanding.

Your next steps...

This great course will give you an opportunity to consider careers such as a product designer, industrial designer, interior designer, spatial designer, automotive designer, architect, mechanical engineer, systems engineer, aeronautical engineer and graphic designer … to name a few.
