You will only be invited to book an interview for your 1st choice course initially.

This course provides a stimulating grounding in the study of crime and criminal behaviour, combining elements of psychology, law and sociology.

You will have the opportunity to develop practical and academic skills through applied learning, with opportunities to learn from practitioners in the criminal justice sector.

You will study two units, starting with changing awareness of crime where you will explore different types of crime, how crime reporting affects people’s perceptions of crime, and how campaigns are used to elicit change. As part of your work for this unit you will plan a campaign for change.

During the second unit, on criminological theories, you will learn about the difference between crime and deviance, different perspectives within criminology (biological, sociological and psychological), and examine the causes of different types of crime, as well as the factors that drive policy change.

This is an Applied General qualification which means it is designed primarily to support students progressing to university. It offers exciting and interesting experiences that focus learning through applied methods. Your knowledge and understanding will be brought to life through a focus on authentic case studies. Topics include the changing awareness of crime, criminological theories, crime scene to courtroom, and crime and punishment.

The flexibility of the course will enable you to specialise in your individual area of interest.

This course needs to be taken alongside two A Levels.

The units are assessed through two internally controlled assessments and two external exams over the course of two years.

You will need to meet the standard entry requirements for A Levels - at least six subjects at grade 4 or above, with at least four of these at grade 5 or above.

This qualification can support your progression to a range of related degree courses, such as criminology, law, psychology and sociology, as well as courses that combine criminology with another social science discipline. Degree courses could include: BSc Criminology, BA (Hons) Criminology, BA Criminology and Criminal, BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology, LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology, BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology, BSc (Hons) Psychology and Sociology or BSc Criminology with Law.
