Course Summary
This Level 1 Creative Media Study Programme provides a strong foundation in digital media, helping you develop your confidence, creativity, and practical skills. The course is designed to introduce a range of media-based techniques and prepare you for progression to a specialist Level 2 course.
Over the academic year, you'll explore different aspects of creative media, which may include filmmaking, photography, animation, digital content creation, and design. Through a combination of practical projects and industry-focused assignments, you'll build the skills needed to take your next steps in education or employment.

Skills Development
Alongside media-based learning, you will also develop:
Professional skills – Problem-solving, organisation, communication, confidence, adaptability, and teamwork.
Project planning & presentation – Understanding how to plan, structure, and present creative work, both written and verbal.
English & Maths – Either through a Functional Skills or GCSE retake programme to support your progression.
IT & Digital Skills – Integrated within your coursework to support your creative development.
Employability skills – Self-management, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving to prepare you for the creative industries.
CV and interview practice – Developing the skills needed to apply for further study, apprenticeships, or jobs.
Personal values – Demonstrating adaptability, reliability, and sensitivity while working collaboratively with peers on projects.
This course is practical and hands-on, providing opportunities to collaborate on projects, work in a creative environment, and develop key skills for further study or future careers in the media industry.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.
• Course work is continually assessed by a range of methods which may include projects, assignments, case studies, course work, self-assessment, feedback from tutors and peer reviews. The grade of pass may be awarded to course work.
• The Study Programmes are over 3 days each week.
• There is regular one to one and group tutorial provision.

By the end of the programme, you’ll have a strong creative portfolio and the confidence to progress to Level 2.
You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 9–2 (A–E) or above.

• UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma in Art & Design
• UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma in Music Performance & Production
• Traineeships, apprenticeships within the wider commercial/creative based industries and supported through Cambridge Regional College
• Employment at a junior assistant level in industry
Please note in order to progress to a UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology or UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma in Art & Design, you will need to achieve a pass for the full Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design & Media.
