Course Summary

This course is designed for an Autocare Technician who will require a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills. They will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults.

It is designed to build skills, knowledge and behaviours so that the Technician can demonstrate expertise not only in the technical elements of their role but also have a good grasp of the practical and theoretical aspects of the vehicle systems they service. They will be shown how to have excellent telephone, customer handling (including how to handle difficult customers and deal with customer disappointment) and effective sales skills, as well as strong problem solving and self-organisation skills.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Apprentices will attend college on day-release for 1 day a week during term time for 2 years. During this time, they will be visited in the workplace every 8 to 10 weeks where they will be guided through the work-based side of their programme. The final 6 months are focussed on preparing the apprentice for End-Point Assessment which will determine the final outcome of the Apprenticeship. This includes theory and practical tests.

Entry requirements

Suitable employment. GCSE Grade 3 or above in English and Mathematics and 1 other subject or the equivalent.
Remember, an apprenticeship is a job so the hiring employer may have additional criteria that will have to be met alongside CRC’s entry criteria. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
