In order to ensure success in the Sixth Form, we have designed different pathways to suit your individual needs. Please see below for the specific entry criteria. In addition to this, students will need to check the specific entry criteria for their chosen subjects by checking each course descrpition.
The General Pathway
This pathway is for students who are unsure about which way their future will take them and therefore would like to keep their options as open as possible by gaining UCAS points with their Module Two Option.
Module One: three A Levels
Module Three: Enrichment Course
Module Four: Academic Coaching
You will need English and Mathematics at Grade 4 or above and at least four other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 or above.
The Combined Pathway
This pathway is for students who are unsure which way their future will take them and therefore would like to keep their options as open as possible.
Module One – either one of the three below options:
Two A-levels and one specialist qualification (equivalent to one A Level)
One A-level and two specialist qualifications (equivalent to one A Level each)
Three specialist qualifications (equivalent to one A Level each)
Module Two: Enrichment Course
Module Three: Academic Coaching
You will need English or Mathematics at Grade 4 or above and at least four other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 or above.
The Specialist Pathway
This pathway is equivalent to three A Levels and is designed for students who already know which career path they would like to take. Please refer to our on offer to view the range.
Module One: Advanced Specialist Qualification
Module Two: Work Placement
Module Three: Enrichment Course
You will need English or Mathematics at Grade 4 or above and at least four other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 or above.
The Extended Pathway
This pathway is for students aspiring to study at Oxbridge or one of the Russell Group Universities or who want to follow a high-demand course such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Law or Engineering.
Module One: Three A Levels
Module Two: One Advanced Subsidiary Level
Module Three: Enrichment Course
Module Four: Academic Coaching
You will need English and Mathematics at Grade 5 or above and at least four other GCSE subjects at Grade 5 or above.
The T Level Pathway
This course is equivalent to three A Levels and is designed for students who already know which career path they would like to take.
Module One: T Level Course
Module Two: Industry Placement
You will need English or Mathematics at Grade 4 or above and at least four other GCSE subjects at Grade 4 or above.
Course Summary
Advanced Level (A Level): The AS course consists of one unit, a portfolio, whist the A Level course consists of two units, a personal study and a Non Examined Assessment (NEA).
Course Details
Awarding Body/Specifications: EDUQAS
Advanced Subsidiary (AS): If you choose to study this subject for one year only you will be awarded the AS Level. You will cover the AS unit content and sit public examinations in Lower Sixth.
Advanced Level (A Level): The AS course consists of one unit and a portfolio, whilst the A Level course consists of two units, a personal study and a Non-Examined Assessment (NEA). The following units will be covered on this course:
AS/Lower Sixth Units
Personal Creative Enquiry – The emphasis of this unit will be on the development of understanding the skills, using an appropriate range of materials, processes and techniques. Students should produce a collection of materials that exemplifies work carried out. The personal creative enquiry consists of an extended, exploratory project/portfolio and outcomes based on themes and subject matter which are personal and meaningful to the student. The enquiry must integrate critical, practical and theoretical work.
A Level/Upper Sixth Units
Personal Investigation – This unit consists of a major, in depth, practical, critical and theoretical investigative project/theme-based portfolio and outcomes with integrated extended written critical and contextual analysis (1000 words minimum).
Externally Set Assignment (NEA) – This assignment consists of Preparatory experimentation set by the examination board over eight school weeks where you will explore ideas and experiment in different materials. There will be a 15-hour timed examination to create a final outcome connecting to the preparatory work. You will select one of the externally set stimuli and develop it in the form of:
A personal response
An issue to address
A problem to be considered
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Coursework/Examination Requirements:
AS Examinations Percentage of AS Level qualification = 60% and 40%
A Level Examinations Percentage of overall A Level qualification = 60% and 40%
Entry requirements
Entry Criteria:
You will need to achieve the pathway criteria, please see the prospectus for further information
You will need to achieve a Grade 5 or above in GCSE Art, Textiles or a Technology subject
Students who have not taken an Art subject at GCSE must see the Curriculum Leader of Art before they apply for the course, to confirm suitability
