Application Instructions

We ask for a minimum GCSE score of 5 grades at grade 4 or above in five different subjects including English Language and Mathematics. We accept equivalent Level 2 qualifications such as BTEC and OCR Nationals but will only count them as 1 grade.

In addition most subjects require at least a grade 5 at GCSE in order to take them at Level 3. Maths and Science subjects require a grade 6.

Health and Social Care is a very broad subject area. Health and Social Care teaches you about the relationships built within care sectors. It pulls together many different disciplines to help us understand people and their needs. It combines biology, sociology, psychology, nutrition, and ethics. If you want to pursue a career in Health and Social Care, you will be working in a sector that is dedicated to helping other people, and improving their lives. It is an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling career path.

Examination Board: OCR

Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care - equivalent to one A Level and involves doing six units over two years.

Diploma in Health and Social Care - equivalent to two A Levels and involves doing eleven units over two years.

What will I learn?

Mandatory units include building positive relationships in health and social care, equality, diversity and rights in health and social care, health, safety and security in health and social care, anatomy and physiology for health and social care, and optional units range from nutrition, mental health, psychology, sociology and public health.

You will need to apply for a DBS if needed to volunteer in different settings for this course. You will also need to purchase a polo shirt.
