Course Details

Studying A Level Law will enable you to investigate a wide range of high profile, real life cases. You will find out about the offences themselves, how they came to court, how the judge can sentence a convicted criminal and how solicitors, barristers, magistrates and juries interact.

In the first year, you will study the nature of law, the English legal system and one area of criminal law. You will be taught problem solving techniques, how to develop a legal argument and will analyse case studies.

In the second year, you will explore tort law and human rights law. Students who like analysing issues, problem solving and debating will thoroughly enjoy the whole course.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are four written examinations across the full AS/A Level programme. At A Level, students are assessed through externally examined written papers covering the Welsh and English legal systems, tort law, criminal law and human rights law. There is no coursework or non-exam assessment component. The course develops legal analysis, application and evaluation skills through examination-based assessment.

You must meet overall entry criteria for A Level study.

At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred.
