DWP support for employers

Support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), through Jobcentre Plus, offers free support to help employers recruit and retain young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Employers can access a dedicated recruitment adviser who can help advertise vacancies, identify suitable candidates and support the recruitment process. They can also arrange work trials, helping employers and young people determine whether a role is a good fit before a job offer is made.

DWP supports workforce development through programmes such as Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs), which provide pre-employment training and work placements to prepare candidates for specific roles and sectors. This helps employers recruit individuals who have already developed relevant skills and experience.

Specialist Disability Employment Advisers can provide advice on employing disabled people, workplace adjustments and creating inclusive working environments. Employers may also be eligible for support through Access to Work, which can help fund practical workplace adjustments, equipment or job coaching.

By working in partnership with DWP, employers can widen their talent pool, reduce recruitment costs and benefit from the skills and potential that young people with SEND bring to the workplace.
